An Invitation to Literary Wandering Through Paris
There are books that are much more than simply works of literature. They become companions, guides, bridges between our daily life and a desirable elsewhere. “A Parisian Literary ABC from Aragon to Zola” (Gallimard/Roger-Viollet) is one of these. I discovered this treasure last week, and I couldn’t help but share it with you.
Paris Through the Eyes of Those Who Sublimated It with Words
What a delightful idea to explore Paris through the alphabet of its writers! From A for Aragon to Z for Zola, each letter invites us on an intimate escapade through the neighborhoods that gave birth to some of the most beautiful texts in our literary heritage.
When Words Bring the City to Life
At aricomagic, we have a soft spot for books that transport us elsewhere while inspiring our interior design. This beautiful work bridges our passion for literature and our love of beautiful objects, connecting cultural heritage with interior design. It reminds us that our reading materials can also be decorative elements in their own right, elegant witnesses to our tastes and interests.
When Photography Embraces Literature
Leafing through these pages is like traveling through time... each author creating a particular atmosphere that transports us.

Precious Archives That Awaken the Paris of Yesteryear
What makes this work unique is the exceptional quality of the Roger Viollet photographic archives that illustrate it. These black and white photographs capture the essence of a literary Paris that we think we know but which reveals itself in a new light. Paris is my heart’s city, and I always love to stop by their gallery on rue de Seine. Then, I adore wandering along the stalls of the bouquinistes, thinking about the time when writers walked these same cobblestones.
The Emotion of a Timeless Capital
Leafing through these pages is like traveling through time. It’s imagining Colette observing passersby from the window of her Palais-Royal apartment, glimpsing Duras‘s shadow seated at the Café de Flore, following Balzac‘s hurried steps up rue Raynouard in Passy, which was my first Parisian home when I discovered the city at 18. With each page, an emotion. With each author, a particular ambiance that transports us.
The Book as a Decorative Object
As someone passionate about decoration, I can’t help but note how this beautiful work naturally finds its place on a coffee table or bookshelf. Its elegant black and white cover is an invitation to guests’ curiosity, an invitation to travel through Paris without leaving one’s living room. It is presented here on our Duras samoussin, which now features subtle shades that harmonize perfectly with the monochrome cover of the book.
From Reading to Decoration, It’s Just a Step
How Books Shape Our Interiors
I’ve always thought that our bookshelves tell who we are better than any declaration. The books we choose to keep, those we display, those we hide… They compose the silent soundtrack of our lives. This ABC is among those beautiful books that deserve to be seen, touched, shared. It says something about our love for literature, for Paris, for French cultural history.
The Reinvented Duras Samoussin
Speaking of showcasing our favorite readings, you may have noticed that the Duras samoussin has received a new outfit. It now consists of an old rose corduroy base and a triangle in chamarre velvet chenille with naturally delicate rosy tints. Particularly designed to be soft to the touch, we worked on a harmony of textures that is both visual and sensory. It’s the ideal companion for surrendering to the sweetness of afternoons spent reading under soft lighting. The light oak ruler and its cream elastic with a plum button complete this ensemble with such delicate vintage accents. A beautiful way to honor this great lady of letters who wrote so much about Paris.
The Art of Creating Memorable Reading Moments
Because isn’t that what it’s all about, ultimately? Creating moments, spaces, rituals that reconnect us to the essential. A good book, a comfortable support, adequate lighting, perhaps a steaming cup of tea within reach… These are the ingredients of a precious moment we gift ourselves. And if this Parisian ABC makes us want to rediscover certain classic authors or dive into their works for the first time, then it has fully fulfilled its mission.
Paris, an Infinite Source of Inspiration
Literary Itineraries to Imagine
One of the riches of this work is that it suggests, between the lines, routes through Paris. One could almost extract thematic itineraries from it: the Paris of the Left Bank with its intellectual figures, the Paris of the grand boulevards where the socialites crossed paths, the Paris of the suburbs that so inspired Zola… A way to rediscover the capital with fresh eyes during your next visit. A mine of ideas for our next collections!

The Magic of Creative Places
What particularly touches me is the magic of places of creation. These cafés, these apartments, these gardens where some of the most beautiful pages of our literature were born. The ABC gives us glimpses of them, like this magnificent view of Saint-Germain-des-Prés church and the famous Les Deux Magots café in the chapter dedicated to Duras – a photograph that perfectly captures the timeless atmosphere of this neighborhood where the writer liked to sit. I like to think that these places retain something of the creative energy that inhabited them, and that we can draw inspiration from them for our own spaces.
The Power of Books in Our Interiors
At aricomagic, we firmly believe that the objects surrounding us should be useful, aesthetic, and meaningful all at once. A book like this Parisian literary ABC perfectly embodies this philosophy: it nourishes the mind, enchants the eye, and naturally finds its place on our Duras samoussin.
Because literature, like fertile decoration, is above all an invitation to live fully, sensitively, in a consciously chosen and skillfully orchestrated daily life.
